Oslo Red Cross´ Networking-activity after imprisonment (ORCN)

According to an ex-inmate: “It is easy to seek previous groups where you have already gained respect,” the Oslo Red Cross´ Networking-activity after imprisonment (ORCN) is an alternative to avoid this. The participant is paired up with a volunteer from ORCN. The volunteer is a mentor and a conversational partner for the participant in a transitional phase.

The volunteers are not paid authority officials or social workers, but fellow human beings that use their own experiences to help others on their way. After imprisonment you may get help to find a place to live, work, and medical care. What is often overlooked is the social aspect. We believe that finding new leisure activities and entering new social arenas to create new social networks is essential to prevent that the ex-inmate relapses into crime.

More information in English will come during 2010.
